Nick Leeson, a 28 year old plasterers son from Watford was responsible for singlehandly bringing down Britain's oldest merchant bank, Barings. He accumulated debts of £869M by trading derivatives in Singapore on the Japanese market. Leeson was sentenced to six and a half years in jail by a Singapore court.
